So, How Does a Surprise Proposal Session Work?
Planning a surprise proposal can feel a little stressful—but I’ve got you!
Surprise proposals are one of my favorite things to photograph. Why? Because it’s real-life magic. That face someone makes when they realize what’s happening? You can’t fake that. It’s golden! ✨ And I’m there—quietly, in the background—clicking away so you can stay completely in the moment.
We plan it together
I’ll help you choose a beautiful location (or scout the one you already have in mind), pick the best time for dreamy light or work around your other plans, and make a game plan that keeps everything smooth and stealthy. I take photos all over northern Utah (Salt Lake City, and Park City are my faves!) so I can help out as much as you need in the planning phase with recommendations and tips.

I’ll show up early, scout out the best angles, and blend in like a pro (hello, fake tourist with a camera). I can be super stealthy and give you privacy, or closer as a fake tourist.

I’ll photograph every second—from the nervous lead-up to the teary-eyed “YES!”—without interfering or giving it away.

Will you help me plan the proposal?
A.Yes! I’m here to make this easy. We’ll talk through timing, location, and how to signal me when the moment’s happening.
Will my partner see you?
A.We'll make a plan about this together - But hopefully not if you don't want them to! I’ll try blend in and stay out of the way until after the big “YES!” if you want me to!
Will you interact with us during the proposal?
A.I'll give you whatever privacy or help you want during the proposal. Some people like a more "fly on the wall" approach where I'm at a distance. Some people like a "touristy" approach where they can ask me to take a cell phone pic of them to add to the disguise!
I've even had a pretend photo session with a couple for 20 minutes and THEN the question is popped mid-session. It's basically up to you!
What happens after the proposal?
A.We take a few relaxed portraits together—no pressure. Just you two, still glowing, in that just-engaged joy bubble. You've got package options for how long we hang out together after the proposal.
When do we get the photos?
A.I’ll send you a sneak peek within a few days. Full gallery comes a couple weeks later.
Will the photos be posed?
A.You'll get the full Becky Green Photography experience! The proposal itself is all candid, and afterward we’ll take a few easygoing portraits. No stiff posing or forced smiles—just genuine, natural moments of you two soaking it all in. We'll get a couple shots of the ring too!
Can we bring props or plan something extra?
A.Yes! Bring the dog, pop champagne, plan a picnic—whatever makes it you.

Can we change outfits or locations?
A.Sure! I can help you choose the session length that suits your plan.
How far in advance should I book a proposal session?
A.Ideally a few weeks ahead -- especially if you want a weekend or a specific day. The more heads up I have, the better chance I'm available. But if you're planning something last minute, reach out anyway. If I'm available, I'll make it happen!
Can you travel for proposals?
A.Yes! I’m based in Salt Lake City, and travel to all the local city and mountain spots within an hour, no prob. That includes Park City, Ogden, and Provo, and all the canyons in between. If you’ve got a dreamy mountain spot, a weekend trip, or a proposal idea in another location—I’m open to traveling. Just let me know where and when, and we’ll figure it out together.
Do you edit the photos?
A.I lightly retouch every image for color, lighting, and overall mood to keep everything looking natural and polished. I don’t do heavy editing or “airbrushing”—I want you to look like you, just in your best light.
Can I add more time?
A.Absolutely. If you want to turn your proposal into an adventure session or include a second location (like a celebration picnic or an outfit change), let me know and we can upgrade the session to fit your vision.
Do you offer help with printing or albums?
A.Yes! Your gallery includes an easy-to-use print store with gorgeous, professional-quality prints and albums. You can create gifts for family, engagement announcements, or something beautiful for your home.
What if my partner gets suspicious?
A.I’m good at helping you keep things casual. I’ll never reach out to your partner, and I’ll work with you to come up with a natural excuse for why you’re “going to this place at this time.” You’ve got this. I’ve got you.
Can we include family or friends after the proposal?
A.Totally! If you’re planning a mini celebration after the big moment and want photos with your people, just let me know when booking. We’ll plan for extra time so I can capture those hugs and happy tears, too.
Or we can plan a photo session with your family and you can pop the question mid-session as a surprise!
What if it rains or something goes sideways?
A.Life happens. I always build in a little flexibility (especially with outdoor sessions). I’m calm under pressure—and I’ll help make it all work.
