If you're looking for ideas for your fall family photo outfits, you're in the right spot.

Here are my 5 favorite FALL COLOR PALETTES and OUTFIT TIPS for your family photo sessions. In Utah, fall family photos are a huge tradition - and for lots of people it can be hard to break out of the habits that make them stressful. I always like to remind clients to keep it fun, personal, and cut out the stressful decisions wherever you can. I think your outfit choices can help with that!

Top Tips for Choosing Outfits:

  1. If you're feeling overwhelmed, you can narrow down one color palette to just 2 main colors plus neutrals.
  2. Neutrals are brown, black, beige, cream, grey, etc.
  3. These palette combinations below always look great in the earthy, neutral surroundings during Fall. Trust them!
  4. Muted or rich colors make all skin tones look great because there aren't any too bright or neon. Pick the one you like with your skin best and stick with neutral colors for accents.
  5. Steer toward one color palette and then bring your personalities in through texture, patterns, and style.
  6. Coordinate but DON'T match 馃挄 I thank you! Unless you walk around your day to day life in matching outfits with your entire family, why would you do it for photos? Ask yourself, 'How does each of my family members dress to look like themselves?'
  7. Lastly, dress warm. Wear layers you love and want to get photographed in. Give yourself permission to include sweaters, jackets, and nice shoes in your outfit planning. You'll be so much happier with layers!

5 Easy Color Palettes for Fall:

For Fall, I've made 5 color pallettes that each have a one main color as a starter and build off of that color. It makes it easy to start with a color you love, and add to it.

  1. Olive
  2. Burgundy
  3. Rust
  4. Denim
  5. All Neutrals

I always love when families dress how they're comfortable in ways that really FEEL like them. So my biggest goal is always to encourage that and help you feel like your personality is very present in all aspects of our photos together. But if you're struggling to put a cohesive vibe together, I am so happy to help out with these color palette ideas. These palettes go so well with the colorful changes that happen in fall in the grassy, tree filled areas of Utah. I love this time of year because people gravitate toward greens, oranges, and yellows like the changing leaves!

1 . Olive

This is one of my favorite palettes to go with for fall because olive, sage, and forest greens are my favorite colors ever. An earthy green focus brings out the natural greens in the nature around you, and allows you to draw out the changing seasonal colors in your accents. Pair with camels, tans, and creams. And depending on what your family prefers, you can accent with jeans or more burgundy colors.

2 . Burgundy

Burgundy tends to be the color everyone has some of in the fall. And it is the easiest to work with in a group because it goes so well with so many colors. Pair with tans, cream, and denim. And you've got the option to go either more blush/rose, or more brown.

3 . Rust

Rust and mustard are the epitome of fall to me. They speak of changing fall colors, Halloween, and Thanksgiving all at once. They are the colors of all the fall harvest veggies. If you're going somewhere that doesn't have a lot of changing leaves, this is a fun way to add that vibe through your clothes.

4 . Blue

Okay, this one might actually be the easiest because everyone has blue jeans. It basically takes the denim color and puts it everywhere with very subtle, light neutral accents. Use variations of blue as your main theme, and touches of cream, light blue, and blushy pinks to accent. The blues and lighter colors are lovely on skin.

4 . ALL NEUTRAL

An all neutral color palette allows for nature to be the hero. The colors of the leaves, grass, and sky stand out. It tends to feel a little more classic and calming.
